The year 2025 marks a historic milestone in the world of photography: the 100th anniversary of the Leica I, a ground breaking invention that revolutionized visual storytelling. In celebration of this momentous occasion, Leica Camera AG presents the Leica: Light, Lens, Legacy exhibition, taking place from 22nd to 26th January 2025 at Foundry by Emaar,
Downtown Dubai. This exhibition is part of a global initiative under the theme “100 Years of Leica: Witness to a Century”, commemorating a century of innovation and cultural impact.

 

Historical Significance:

“I hereby decide: we will take the risk.” These pivotal words by Ernst Leitz II in 1925 led to
the mass production of the “Ur-Leica,” the world’s first compact 35mm camera, developed by Oskar Barnack. This revolutionary invention not only redefined photography but also gave birth to new genres like reportage, documentary, street, and artistic photography. For the first time, photographers could capture life as it unfolded—preserving decisive moments that continue to inspire generations.

At Leica: Light, Lens, Legacy, visitors will journey through 100 iconic images captured by some of the world’s most renowned photographers. These photographs are not merely visuals; they are historical artifacts that have shaped and documented pivotal moments in time. Each image reflects Leica’s unparalleled contribution to the art of photography,
showcasing its ability to evoke emotion, tell stories, and create profound connections.
